The Surface Transportation Board ruling on May 7th, 2007 presents several challenges for today’s mover navigating the road ahead.
Understanding the various legal requirements that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, The Surface Transportation Board, and the Household Goods Mover Oversight, Enforcement and Reform Act, places on movers can both confusing and time consuming.
IGC Software understands this and has comprehensive tariff consulting services available to help.
Areas IGC Software could provide guidance would be:
- Gaining a better understanding on how the STB ruling will affect your business.
- Understanding how to customize the various parts of 400n or 600 to maximize profitability for your organization.
- If you would like to design your own tariff.

If you elect to adopt an HGCBC tariff, you should
keep in mind that you can customize the HGCBC tariffs to fit your own operation. Some
of the changes that you may wish to consider making in your own individual tariffs, in
addition to any exceptions that you may have published in HGCBC Exceptions Tariff
104, are
- Changing the baseline tariff level of rates to reduce or increase any of the
transportation rates, the SIT-related rates, or the packing or unpacking rates.
- Changing or waiving the Full Packing/Full Unpacking option and instead using
the Custom Pack Option when determining packing and unpacking rates for all
shipments.
- Changing or waiving the seasonal (peak season) rate adjustment.
- Changing or waiving the Fuel Cost Price Adjustment (Surcharge).
- Changing or waiving the annual General Price Adjustment that provides for an
automatic rate adjustment on January 1st of each calendar year.
- Or any other changes in the rates, charges and other provisions that they wish to
make.
